Mary Ellen Croteau worked both large and small, from installation to artist books, and used a variety of media, from traditional oil painting to photography to xerox and assemblage. The critique largely determined the presentation.  She began working with plastic waste in 2004, and worked with plastic bottle caps and lids for the rest of her life in an effort to make vividly clear the amount of plastic waste with which befoul the environment.

The work featured here spans three decades, from 1989 through the present. It is arranged as bodies of work which were mostly exhibited together, and is presented in reverse chronological order. The exceptions are SisterSerpent work and BookArt, which are grouped as themes and presented last.
